Wijnhuis Rainer Wess

Het wijnhuis Rainer Wess werd opgericht in 2003 in een kelder in Unterloiben. Al snel was de kelder te klein en kocht Rainer in 2009 de voormalige kelder van de Wilhering Abbey, gelegen in de stad Krems. De kelder is inmiddels gerenoveerd en van alle gemakken voorzien. Weingut Wess heeft ongeveer 8 hectare aan Einzellage (1e lage) wijngaarden – vergelijkbaar met Grand Cru uit Frankrijk- en leased nog 7 hectare er bij onder andere in Loibenberg, Pfaffenberg en Stein. Het landgoed is lid van de Österreichischen Traditionsweingüter, letterlijk Vereniging van Oostenrijkse Traditionele Wijngoeden en heeft als doel de herkomst van de wijn zo puur mogelijk in het glas te brengen. De zonnewijzer en het kompas in het logo van de verenging zijn belangrijke symbolen en behoren tot de meest traditionele instrumenten; de positie van de zon en de maan, de seizoenen en de spanning tussen dag en nacht spelen vandaag de dag nog steeds een belangrijke rol in de wijnbouw. Rainer Wess staat voor zeer mooie en zuivere Grüner Veltliners en Rieslings. De wijnen zijn aromatisch, mineralig, rijk en complex en hebben een mooie zuurgraad.
