14 generaties lang Domaine Piron

Al 14 generaties land is de familie Piron al actief in de wijnbouw. Het domein is gevestigd in Morgon en is in 1590 opgericht door Etienne Bailly. De familie Bailly en Piron volgden elkaar op en op dit moment is het wijnhuis in handen van Dominique Piron. Dankzij zijn kennis heeft hij de regio een wereldwijde reputatie gegeven en zijn, zijn kwaliteitswijnen als jaren bekend onder wijnliefhebbers. In de heuvels op de noordelijke helft van Beaujolais vinden we de wijnstokken voor deze wijn. Oostelijk gelegen profiteren ze van een zanderige en granieten bodem met kleine stenen die de warmte van de zon goed kunnen opnemen. In de nacht kunnen de stenen die warmte weer teruggeven aan de wijngaard. Zo blijft de natuurlijke frisheid van de druiven behouden. De druiven worden na optimale rijpheid met de hand geoogst en gesorteerd. Voor een deel worden de druiven ontsteeld. Na deze selectie worden de druiven geperst en volgt de semi carbonique fermentatie in cement en roestvrijstalen vaten, voor de duur van 8 tot 10 dagen. Daarbij is de duur erg belangrijk en mag niet te lang duren, zodat de frisheid en de aroma’s behouden blijven.

Zacht en zeer fruitige Beaujolais Villages

Het resultaat is fantastisch. In de geur veel vers rood fruit, rode bloemen en iets van een beetje grapefruit. De smaak is echt wat men van een wijn uit deze regio mag verwachten, zacht en zeer fruitig in de mond. Mooie smaken van besjes, aardbeien, klein beetje mineralen en wat frisheid van granaatappel. Deze Beaujolais Villages is een mooie combinatie bij licht gekruide gerechten, vis of gevogelte.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

This book wasn't bad, but wasn't my cup of tea. It's highly disappointing because the storyline is so original. There is no real conflict or resolution, so the entire thing feels flat. As a lover of omegaverse books, I know there is a ton of variety out there, and ov is really up to the author. But this one is weird. Omegas have multiple scent glands all over their bodies and go into week long heats every month. Alphas have knots in the middle of their shaft instead of the base, and the knot doesn't always swell, no explanation of when or why. It doesn't engage at all when the mouth is in play. I also didn't enjoy the author's writing style. Each paragraph is only 1 or 2 sentences long, and the entire book reads very stacato. The conversations are stiff and unnatural feeling. Everything is very repetitive, both in word choice and in thought. The same thing is repeated 3 or 4 times over a single page, multiple times over. I ended up doing so much skimming. The first 50% of the book is all slow burn, and the last 50% is almost straight mediocre spice. This wouldn't have been all bad if the grammar and spelling errors didn't start at the exact same time. Tongue is repeatedly misspelled in the middle of the spice.
