Wilhelmus à Brakel (1633 - 1711) schreef zijn Redelijke Godsdienst als dogmatiek voor gemeenteleden. De eerste druk kwam uit in 1700 en sindsdien zijn er tientallen herdrukken gevolgd. Het boek was zeer geliefd bij gewone gemeenteleden en heeft grote invloed gehad op het gereformeerde denken. Belangrijkste reden is dat À Brakel steeds een toespitsing maakt naar het persoonlijke leven. Om de Redelijke Godsdienst ook voor de komende generaties leesbaar te houden is het boek hertaald. Nadat À Brakel in het eerste deel de zegeningen behandelde die de Heere schenkt in het genadeverbond, beschrijft hij in het tweede deel hoe de gelovigen uit dit genadeverbond leven. Thema's die in deel 2B aan de orde komen zijn o.a. het gebed, de geestelijke gaven en de geestelijke wasdom. De hertaling is van Jasper J. Stam MA.
