Het spijsverteringsgestel is een ingewikkeld, maar goed georganiseerd systeem. Alles wat we via voeding tot ons nemen, vindt zijn weg in een uitgebreid verteringstraject. Als eerste stop bereikt ons voedsel de maag. De maag produceert zoutzuur en diverse enzymen die nodig zijn voor de vertering van vetten, koolhydraten en eiwitten. De enzymen betaïne HCL (hydrochloride) en pepsine (peptase) komen van nature in ons lichaam voor.
Superieure bron van 650 mg betaïne per tablet
Betaïne hydrochloride (HCL) is de hydrochloridezoutvorm van het enzym betaïne. Doorgaans maakt de maag zelf zoutzuur aan zodra vetten of koolhydraten de maag bereiken. Door factoren als overconsumptie van koolhydraten en vetten, stress en ouderdom neemt de productie van zoutzuur in de maag af.
Ultieme synergetische formule
Suppletie met betaïne HCL en pepsine werkt als een buitengewoon krachtige synergetische formule. Een bijzonder hecht team dat elkaar versterkt in werking. Het lichaam produceert pepsine namelijk niet direct als actief enzym. De wandcellen in de maag produceren pepsinogeen, de voorloper van pepsine. Het zoutzuur (betaïne HCL) in de maagholte transformeert vervolgens pepsinogeen in de actieve vorm pepsine. Pas nu kan pepsine zijn werk doen binnen ons lichaam. Bij de omzetting van pepsine gaat een hoop pepsinogeen verloren. Het is dus uiterst efficiënt om de actieve vormen pepsine en betaïne te suppleren.
Toevoeging van pepsine met een hoge enzymenactiviteit
Bij het selecteren van een goed enzym, moet je niet persé te letten op de dosering van een enzym, maar op de zogenoemde enzymenactiviteit. Vitakruid heeft aan deze combinatie maar liefst 160 mg pepsine toegevoegd met een uiterst hoge enzymactiviteit van 1:3000. Een hoge activiteit is makkelijk te herkennen: hoe hoger het tweede getal, des te actiever het enzym in de betreffende combinatie. Op veel producten is de activiteit van een enzym niet vermeld. Vitakruid staat voor transparantie en daarom vermelden ze op onze etiketten altijd de enzymactiviteit!
Testkit
Voor wanneer je niet helemaal zeker bent of Betaïne HCL 650 het product voor jou is, is er een handige testkit ontwikkeld. In de testkit zitten tien tabletten waarmee je gemakkelijk kan nagaan of Betaïne HCL met pepsine een geschikt product voor jou is! Neem één tablet met 650 mg betaïne HCL en 160 mg pepsine in halverwege een eiwit- en vetrijke hoofdmaaltijd. Wanneer de ongemakken niet verergeren, maar juist verminderen, dan kan suppletie met betaïne HCL helpen.

I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!

Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters.
That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception.
SPOILER:
The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured.
I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Dual 1st person POV - Ara (26) & Rogue (39 - but looks mid-20s: they can live hundreds of years so this isn't that large of a gap as it could've been which I heavily appreciate lol)
Tropes: enemies to lovers, fae/human wars (deep hatred for each other), shifters (dragons- MMC can only partial shift with wings), one horse, one bed, touch her and d!e, found family, abduction turned to freedom
The Last Storm is the debut novel from JD Linton and let me tell you, you guys NEED to read this. The plot was engaging and the editing was was amazing (especially for a debut novel). Our FMC, Ara, is stuck in her gilded cage longing for a life outside of her small town. She uses her books to escape and live vicariously through the pages (honestly, relatable). After her father announces her betrothal to her childhood friend (to whom she has no romantic feelings for), Ara tumbles unknowingly into a desperate plot trying to stop the humans from slaughtering the Fae.
As one can expect from an enemies to lovers / kidnapper/captive romance, Ara fights her attraction and lust towards our MMC, Rogue (the King of the Fae), for as long as she can. Upon seeing Ara for the first time, Rogue is instantly aware that she is his fated mate (not a spoiler). Since she is the General's only daughter, he plans to abduct her and use her as leverage to stop the brutality. During Ara's time in Rogue's captivity, their banter and chemistry continue to rise until they finally boil over and come together (quite literally, and many times I may add 😉).
Here's what I LOVED:
- Rogue continuously seeks advice from his elders and deeply respects their opinions and life experience and tries to implement their recommendations
- Rogue makes many mistakes in the beginning but we see him actively work on not repeating them as the book progresses. The level of self-awareness and his ability to change his behavior was impressive
- The magic system is intricate and we have only scraped the surface. As the series continues and Ara progresses in her powers, I'm sure we'll get to see more of this. I absolutely LOVE the messaging system that is used in this book.
- Ara's struggles are so human and so raw. She is experiencing so much guilt and pain and hurt and getting to see her work through each of these emotions is inspiring. Especially as her and Rogue get closer and she learns she can lean on him as well, that she is not alone.
- While this is the start of a series, there is NO cliffhanger! There's a bit of a teaser of something major that is going to happen at the start of the next book, but it's not a cliffhanger in the sense that we aren't sure if someone is going to live or d!e or if they'll be separated. For that, I am very thankful! This book was so much fun that I will definitely be returning to book 2, even if it takes several months (or longer since this is an debut author) to publish!
- Lastly, the cover is GORGEOUS! And I love the title!
