The Platinum 3776 Century Fountain Pen in Chartres Blue & Rhodium combines one of Japan's most respected gold-nib writing experiences with a distinctive color inspired by one of Europe's most celebrated architectural landmarks. Named after the stained-glass windows of Chartres Cathedral in France, the translucent blue resin captures remarkable depth and luminosity, creating a finish that remains one of the most recognizable within the 3776 Century collection.

Developed to represent Platinum's ideal fountain pen, the 3776 Century balances traditional craftsmanship, modern engineering, and practical everyday usability. Its combination of refined aesthetics and exceptional writing performance has made it a favorite among enthusiasts seeking a premium gold-nib fountain pen without unnecessary complexity.

Craftsmanship & Design

The Chartres Blue finish showcases Platinum's ability to create visual richness through carefully formulated resin. Depending on lighting conditions, the pen reveals varying shades of deep sapphire and cobalt blue, complemented by bright rhodium-plated trim that enhances the pen's crisp, modern appearance.

The cigar-shaped profile draws upon classic fountain pen design while maintaining proportions that feel balanced and comfortable in hand. Transparent elements throughout the body subtly reveal the pen's internal structure, adding visual interest without distracting from the elegance of the overall design.

One of the defining innovations of the 3776 Century collection is Platinum's proprietary Slip & Seal mechanism. Designed to dramatically reduce ink evaporation, the system allows the pen to remain inked and ready for use even after extended periods of inactivity, making it particularly appealing to writers who rotate between multiple fountain pens.

Writing Experience

At the heart of the 3776 Century is a handcrafted 14-karat gold nib manufactured in Japan. Platinum nibs are widely respected for their precision, consistency, and distinctive tactile character. Rather than feeling overly smooth, they provide a controlled writing experience that allows users to maintain excellent awareness of the page while retaining fluid ink flow.

The lightweight construction and balanced dimensions make the pen comfortable for extended writing sessions, whether used for note-taking, journaling, correspondence, or professional work. Combined with the reliability of the Slip & Seal cap system, the 3776 Century delivers a writing experience that prioritizes function as much as refinement.

Platinum Heritage

Founded in 1919, Platinum Pen Co. has earned a reputation as one of Japan's most respected writing instrument manufacturers. The 3776 name itself references the elevation of Mount Fuji, Japan's highest peak, reflecting the company's ambition to create an ideal fountain pen that embodies the pinnacle of its craftsmanship.

Today, the 3776 Century remains one of the most influential modern Japanese fountain pens, appreciated for its exceptional value, distinctive nib character, and thoughtful engineering. The Chartres Blue & Rhodium model exemplifies those qualities while adding a vibrant and elegant visual identity that has become a signature of the collection.

This is my middle school daughter’s favorite book.
Format: Paperback
My daughter usually reads only graphic novels, but she started reading chapter books after this one. She loved it so much that she’s read it several times, and since it’s a series, we bought and read all the other books too. It’s a great book for middle school girls—easy to get into and very engaging.

Perfect Combo of Fun and Serious
Format: Kindle
This story was the perfect combination of humor and seriousness. I, even as an adult, remember some of those same feelings and the drama of junior high years. It made me take a look even at myself and ask what I look for in people? It made me ask myself if I need to reach out and apologize. But it also ales me want to do better. Step away from social media. When on social media, make sure I think about my comments and how they can be construed or make people feel. Help my nieces and nephews compliment actions and other such areas and not looks. To look deeper into a person. Well written. Lots of fun. And just what I needed in a book. Chad Morris and Shelly Brown do it again.

Great book with great lessons I want all my kids to learn.
Format: Hardcover
A fun book about kids going to “virtual” school during the pandemic, but like, the coolest virtual school I’ve ever heard of. They use VR headsets to attend from the comfort and safety of their own home, and because it’s a digital world, they have the opportunity to re-invent themselves with customizable avatars. Some go as themselves, some simplify, and some go all-out for reasons that come out as the story progresses. As three students learn to navigate a new school, new friends, and new challenges they learn life lessons that I wish I could drill in to my budding teenagers. This was a fun, quick story that I’m enjoying reading to my middle grade children. I finished it on my own after bedtime because I couldn’t put it down. My eyes may have leaked a few times, but knowing Chad and Shelly’s other wonderful books, it didn’t surprise me in the least that I was so moved. 4.5 stars because some of the VR descriptions don’t mesh with real life VR capabilities (i.e. the motion sickness that would have plagued every kid the way the games/classes were described), but bonus points for the imagination and creativity in creating the school we all wish we could have attended. (If we couldn’t get in to Cragbridge that is…) 😉👍🏻 Thanks for another great book that I’m eager to put into my kids hands.
