HEPHTHALITE, Kabul/Zabul Region

Napki Malka Drachm (c. 475-576 AD),

3,28g.29mm

The Napki Malka coins show a fine style and realistic portraits. It is not known if the phrase refers to an actual person or to a regime. The center of their domain was Gandhara, in western Afghanistan, where is found the modern city of Kandahar. An alternative reading of “Napki” is Nezak. Some of the Napki style coins have the legend SRI SHAHO.

The Hephthalites were the eastern component of the people who, in Europe, were called “Huns.” They are sometimes referred to as “White Huns.” Some of the Hephthalite coins of Afghanistan-Pakistan region have the word “HONO” on them. On the other hand, there is a faction amongst the historians who claim that we really have no idea who any of those people were, let alone if they were related to each other. There seems to be a general feeling that the Huns, or the Hephthalites, or the people the Chinese called Xiong Nu, and other scholars called “Chionites,” were more Iranic than Turkic.

Might be the best watch… ever.
Possibly the perfect watch. Easy to read display and light. Great functions. Lightweight and comfortable to wear. Tough solar to keep charged and multiband 6 for accurate timekeeping. Love it. Excellent value too!

Set it and forget it — solar & atomic is worth it
This is easily one of the most practical watches I’ve owned. The solar charging is a game changer — no worrying about battery changes. As long as it gets some light, it just keeps going. The atomic timekeeping is another big plus. It updates itself, so it’s always accurate without you having to mess with it. It still has that classic G-Shock toughness, so I don’t think twice about wearing it to work, the gym, or outside. It’s durable, lightweight, and more low-profile than some of the bigger G-Shocks, which I actually prefer. The display is clean and easy to read, and once you learn the buttons, everything is straightforward. If you want a tough everyday watch that basically runs itself, this is a solid upgrade over the standard models.

Best Watch Ever Made
I am a watch collector. I have about 50 watches - of all different sorts: automatic, quartz, analog, digital, high-end (luxury - like omega) and low-end (timex). This watch is hands-down the best watch in my collection. Sure I wouldn’t wear it with a suit. But in literally every other occasion this watch is perfect. It’s always accurate to the second - you never have to set it. And it syncs really well with atomic time (here in the US and in the UK from my experience). Also the world time feature is perfect when traveling - simply push the top two buttons in world time mode to switch the new time zone to your current time zone. Its button configuration is perfect compared to other digital watches. And the battery will last basically indefinitely. Perhaps you might need to add a new solar powered watch battery replacement once in your lifetime if the battery stops taking any charge. The stopwatch and timer are useful for me daily. And the hourly signal on the alarm mode is great when you want to be more mindful of the time. Sure Casio makes other similarly functioned watches that are just as fun. But I think where this reigns supreme over those is its classic design, perfect functionality and button layout, and its size. And it beats a smart watch in terms of battery life, durability, and reliability. I promise you won’t dislike this watch - unless you think the design is ugly… which I understand if you do. But give it a chance and you might discover the joy and security this watch gives me.

Perhaps the Perfect Digital Watch
This is perhaps as close to a perfect digital watch as you can get. Besides the toughness of a G=Shock, it's got all the daily features one may need (alarm - which you can set up to 5, stopwatch and countdown timer). It also has world time, which is a nice feature to have when travelling. When in stop watch and time modes, the current time is displayed in the upper right corner of the display where the date normally is. It's solar powered, and the display shows how much power the watch has. Multi-band 6 is another feature, so it automatically sets the time once it receives a signal from an atomic clock transmitter. YMMV with this feature though. I have difficulty receiving the signal being on the U.S. east coast (the transmitter is in Colorado). There are phone apps you can use to strengthen the signal if normal reception fails. Despite this, it can be manually set if needed. Visibility of the display is an upgrade over the DW-5600. It's more clear, and more visible at different viewing angles. The standard backlight is now LED instead of the classic electroluminescence. Some prefer the latter. This may or may not be a deal breaker based on personal preference, but considering what this watch has to offer, it should only be a consideration in the bigger picture. The watch offers a great fit for G-Shock. With its slim profile, it lacks the bulk of many of the other G-Shock models out there. It's very comfortable to wear on different size wrists, though the strap may not be everyone's cup of tea. The design is very much retro, harkening back to the 1983 original square with the red border. For the price of this watch, it really is a great value. It's also possibly the only digital watch you'll ever need unless you want other functions like tides, barometers, etc. In my collection, this watch is one of my favorites. There's a good chance it will become one of yours too.
