The Blackmagic Design Spares - ATEM Television Studio HD - Front PCB is the interface board located directly behind the front panel of the 1RU switcher. While the Main PCB handles the video processing "brain," the Front PCB manages the human element: the physical buttons, the small LCD screen, and the rotary knob.

Because this board is located directly behind the chassis exterior, it is the most common victim of "button mashers," liquid spills, and mechanical fatigue.

Core Responsibilities

  • Tactile Switching: Houses the high-cycle mechanical buttons used for Program/Preview switching and menu navigation.

  • LCD Control: Drives the small 2-inch built-in LCD used for monitoring inputs and adjusting system settings.

  • Rotary Encoding: Manages the "Spin Knob" used to scroll through menus and adjust audio levels.

  • Visual Feedback: Controls the dual-color (Red/Green) backlighting for the buttons and the tally logic for the front panel.

  • Headphone Circuitry: Typically houses the $1/4$-inch headphone jack and its dedicated amplifier circuit.

When to Replace the Front PCB

  • Unresponsive Buttons: You press "Cut" or "Auto," and while the button feels physically fine, the switcher does nothing.

  • LCD Failure: The screen is white, garbled, or completely dark, but the switcher still works perfectly via the Software Control on a computer.

  • "Sticky" or Double-Triggering: A single press of a button registers twice, or the buttons stay physically "down" (often due to environmental debris or liquid damage).

  • Encoder Jitters: When you turn the knob to change a setting, the values on the screen jump wildly or don't move at all.

  • Headphone Jack Damage: If the front-panel headphone port is loose or only plays audio in one ear.

Technical Installation Note

Repair Level: 2 (Moderate). This is a mechanical "un-sandwiching" process.

  1. Faceplate Removal: You must remove the screws on the top of the chassis and then the screws holding the front aluminum faceplate to the body.

  2. Ribbon Cable Handling: The Front PCB is connected to the Main PCB via a wide, delicate ribbon cable. Caution: This cable often has a locking "flip-up" tab. Do not pull the cable until the tab is released, or you will ruin the socket on the Main PCB.

  3. Knob Removal: You will need to pull the plastic rotary knob off the front of the unit before the PCB can be separated from the metal plate. It is usually a friction-fit (pull straight out).

  4. Static Warning: Because your fingers frequently touch the buttons connected to this board, it is designed with some ESD protection, but the back of the board is vulnerable. Always work on an anti-static mat.

Diagnostic: Front PCB vs. Main PCB

  • Scenario A: The switcher is working fine via your computer, but the physical buttons and screen are "frozen."

    • Verdict: This is almost certainly a Front PCB failure.

  • Scenario B: The front panel lights up and the screen shows the Blackmagic logo, but it never progresses to the video feed.

    • Verdict: This is likely a Main PCB (boot) failure, not the front panel.

  • Scenario C: One specific button (like "CAM 3") is the only thing not working.

    • Verdict: You can try cleaning the contact with DeoxIT F-Series, but if that fails, the Front PCB must be replaced as the individual switches are surface-mounted.

Expert Advice: If your buttons are simply "sticky" from a spill, you can often save this board by removing it and cleaning it with 99.9% Isopropyl Alcohol. However, if the LCD has "dead lines" or the rotary encoder has failed, a full board replacement is the only professional solution.

Is the LCD screen failing to show an image, or are the physical buttons simply not responding?

No match for 3 month old puppy!
Color: Blue
I was really hopeful this would last a while, but 5 minutes out of the box and my 3 month old puppy has chewed two chunks out of the blue part already - seems this is too soft for puppy teeth, and it specifically claims to be good for puppy teething. 5 minutes of play is not worth paying for. Maybe if the material had been more substantial, this could have been great for high activity level puppies. My pup had no trouble carrying it around, so it wasn't too heavy, and it was easy to play fetch with as well. For reference, my pup is a mixed breed - labrador, poodle, newfoundland.

Best ever dog toy
Color: Pink
This is such the clever toy and actually I think it makes my pup more clever too. The ball is tough enough to withstand excessive chewing. I really can’t say enough good things about this particular dog toy. This will keep my dogs attention for such a long period of time and you can truly just watch the wheels turning in his head as he figures out how to get the food out would buy again and I probably will just to have a back up.

Great for 22 pound mini schnauzer/mini greyhound mix
Color: Pink
I have a dog that is half miniature schnauzer and they love to sniff and snuffle. He is enjoying this ball. I put the little freeze dried liver cubes in it and he will play with it until he gets them all out, and maybe keep playing for a bit. I can't give it 5 stars because I don't know quite how I'm going to clean the inside of it. I can't speak for how well it cleans his teeth because he hasn't had it that long. It is sturdy. He's a 22 pound medium size dog and I'm confident he cannot chew it to the point of destroying it. He's barely made a scratch on it so it may break down over time but it's not something a small or medium dog should be able to chew through the first day. He's had it about 2 weeks and we use it every day and it's holding up very well. It's not interesting enough to him to play with it without treats in it but he rarely plays with a toy unless I'm actively playing with the other end of the toy or throwing it for him to chase (part Italian greyhound too so he does like chasing) but he will get excited when he sees this ball as he knows treats are going to be in it. This one is a good size for him and he can pick it up with his teeth. (This is the hot pink one with the blue ball inside) Definitely worth the price if I can figure out how to sufficiently clean inside of it. So far rinsing with warm water seems to keep it hygienic. It's silicone so everything pretty much slides out. I wouldn't put any moist treats in it though. It's quiet. No squeaker, but he has plenty of toys that squeak and we didn't get it for that. It definitely appeals to his sniffing and snuffling instincts.
