Notes:

The Kirtana Bhakti Yoga, - as well as other forms of Yoga -, has its origins beyond the time of written history, and through some of the Mantras included in this record have been chanted in India for thousands of years, most of them have never been heard in the Western World.

In earlier times Mantras were never chanted in the presence of uninitiated persons and their use was strictly guarded, since it was believed that their use might produce supernatural powers ("Siddhis") which could be misused by uninitiated persons without high ethical principles.

Chanting and listening to this particular type of music is also considered part of the Hatha Yoga Sadhana (= discipline). The various musical notes, it is believed, have corresponding "Nadis" (= subtle channels in the "astral body") in the vital centras within the "Kundalini and other Chakras", and the music vibrates these Nadis, purifies them and awakens the psychic and spiritual powers dormant in them. Purification of Nadis not only ensures peace and happiness of mind but also goes  a long way in Yoga Sadhana and this helps the aspirant to reach the goal of Life.

The main purpose of the use of Kirtana Music is to draw us nearer the center of our Being. Harmonious and rhythmical continuous repetition of the different names of the Absolute (Sat-Chit-Ananda) forms a deep-rooted impression in the mind of the repetitioner and the sincere devotee ultimately loses himself in Divine Ecstasy.  The names of the Absolute are All-Bliss and when they are chanted the mind merges in its Bliss. It loses its individual entity in the Bliss and becomes ONE with Bliss.

The belief in the power of Mantras and Chantings even in the India of today is quite universal, e.g. in January-February 1962, when the astrologers in India had predicted potential danger of disastrous explosion of World War III, Shanti Mantras were chanted by millions all over India.  In New Delhi a temporary temple was built especially for that purpose, and hundreds of yogis were continuously chanting Mantras 24 hours a day, the whole operation being financed by one of India's biggest industrialists.
