Forget to design a solution once and for all - with Machine Learning it simply doesnÕt work!
You need to become a Loop designer.
Given that learning is inherently dynamic, designers need to harness feedback loops to create solutions that adapt to changing environments and data. Discover how to work backward from humans, partner with ML field experts, build effective feedback loop mechanisms, and design data-aware interactions.

With Machine Learning, designers hold a crucial role in keeping humans and society at the center. The book guides the reader in understanding the challenges and peculiarities of designing these systems. It provides methods and tools to apply a human-centered approach to problem-framing and solving.

'Human-Machine learningÕ is a design paradigm that enables both humans and machines to learn and adapt.

Shifting our perspective from a growth to an adaptive mindset, the book presents the Human-Machine Learning paradigm as a way to tackle complex problems and drive positive change systemically.

Six things you will find in this book:
1. The role of feedback in shaping human and machine learning
2. The role of designers in working backward from human needs in ML projects
3. How to design with and for data
4. How to design feedback loops at three levels of interactions: individual, organizational, and societal
5. A systemic perspective on designing with ML with a humanity-centered approach
6. How to design for Human-Machine Continual Learning

Schillizzi's "Human-Machine Learning" maps the intersection of design and ML through the lens of an AWS veteran. Tailored for rising designers, this book explores AI ethics, surveys system thinking, and offers actionable tactics for aligning with engineering and product teams in the tech realm. Its engaging narrative provides a roadmap for iterative "designing in loops" product development in todayÕs AI-driven industry. ÑJohn Maeda, Author of How To Speak Machine

Making Friends
Format: Kindle
This whole series is absolutely fantastic. I love the idea of a magical sketchbook that Dany can draw anything in. My favorite part (and my sister’s), is when Prince Neptune acts like he’s about to leave, and he kisses Dany. Then, he tries to yank the sketchbook out of her hands and he yells “So I will reshape this world to fit my needs!” with the most evil look on his face. It’s super funny. All of the backstories were well-developed, and the Madison and Amanda storyline really impressed me! I think anyone with a good sense of humor would love this book.

Cute story about friendship with a fantastical twist.
Format: Kindle, Format: Kindle
Amazon has been recommending me this book for quite some time now, and since I read a lot of reviews saying that the premise was very interesting/ unusual, I decided to give it a shot. I bought the Kindle version. #1 The artwork: I'm a huge fan of graphic novels, so the art on the cover caught my eye immediately. I liked the overall style, and color palette. However I feel like the interior art falls flat sometimes. No doubt that the artist knows her stuff, but I felt like sometimes she might not have had such a strong handle on the characters. The line thickness tended to vary from panel to panel on some pages, and some characters didn't always look like they belonged in the same universe. #2: The story (spoilers): The concept for this was very interesting, and I enjoyed it for the most part, but there were some things about the story I thought were unnecessary. I don't think Prince Neptune needed to be a character at all. To me, his only real purpose was to make Danny into a less likable version of herself, and to end the book when he destroyed the school. The ending I also thought was a little weird. I had read reviews about it beforehand, but It still caught me completely off guard. I know the story is fantasy, obviously, but I think it could've been toned down just a smidge. I think if the plot focused more on the relationship between Danny, Madison, and even Danny's other friends, I would've given it five stars. I found myself asking a lot of questions about them in terms of who they were to Danny, and why it seemed like they all stopped hanging out for seemingly no reason. A point was made that Danny had a different schedule than them, but I didn't even see her make an effort to preserve her relationships despite this. One things I really want to praise the book on however, is the humor. There was a lot of subtle jokes for older readers that I chuckled at, that would probably fly over a kid's head. For those who are wondering, there's no swearing/ inappropriate words, but some bullying/ teasing/ crying is depicted. There is also fantasy "violence", but it's nothing worse than what you'd see in a Saturday morning cartoon on Disney channel. #3 Final Thoughts: Overall, I would recommend this book if you have young kids interested in this kind of thing. I'm not the target demographic for this, so I'm a bit more critical, however if someone had put this in the hands of 9 year old me, I would've absolutely loved it to bits.

Recommended by 11 year old boy
Format: Hardcover
My son selected this book to read with his school instructional support as a means to mimic a high cap program. My son likes to read books on this topic, which I find a little depressing and a little dark...but listening to the thought provoking conversations that tutor and student had over ZOOM....this is highly recommended. I did not read the book, but both tutor and student enjoyed reading it. They were a little sad to move to another book. The conversations that I overhead did a wonderful job of providing historical references (which I find lacking in his schooling so far), portraying how the characters FELT, what motivated them, and in general connecting my son to a world far bigger than greater than within our Covid quarantined city. Not sure how much of this wonderful learning experience was based on the talent and experience of the tutor, but ALLIES provided content that was educational, emotional and allowed the tutor to delve deeper, connect ideas, draw inferences and start predicting outcomes. She was trying to teach him to immerse himself in the reading....not just reading for a reading log. This was a very successful 'book club' for my son.
