Even before it gets light, they are wide awake. Squirrels eat seeds, buds, berries, flowers, insects, snails, acorns and nuts. Squirrels keep a reserve of nuts and acorns for the winter. Unfortunately, they don't mark this reserve, so they have to look for it until they find it again.
