Die Fronteingangshöhlen dienen als Schutz- und Rückzugsmöglichkeit für Krebse und kleine Welse. 
 Die hinten geschlossene Tonhöhle ist ca. 6,5 cm lang und hat eine Eingangsöffnung von ca. 2,5 cm. Die Höhlen sind auch ideal für Bepflanzungen von Moos.
 Da die Oberfläche recht porös ist, wächst das Moos sehr schnell und leicht an.
