The manual contains a variety of scenarios in which building shipping routes to different islands plays a major role. Ships cost 1 wood and 1 wool each, and the rules for them are a lot like building streets. In most scenarios, players receive bonus points for building settlements on other islands, making them highly motivated to form shipping routes.

Scenarios vary from fixed playing fields to voyages of discovery where the players only find out where the various islands are during the game. Furthermore, the riverbed is introduced, where gold can be found. Players with a settlement on this tile receive a resource card of their choice.

The rules are virtually the same as those of the basic game with additional rules for ship routes, victory point tokens, gold tiles and the pirate.
