The Petzl Iko Core Trail Running Headtorch combines advanced technology in a lightweight, rechargeable design delivering 500 lumens at just 79 g. Its AIRFIT headband and slim lamp body with a rear-mounted battery create a balanced, nearly invisible fit for exceptional comfort. Equipped with multiple LEDs for even light distribution, it ensures excellent visual comfort. The HYBRID CONCEPT allows use with the included CORE rechargeable battery or three AAA batteries. Versatile in use, it can be worn on the head or neck and converted into a lantern with the storage pouch, while folding flat for easy portability during all outdoor adventures.

  • Ergonomic and comfortable, thanks to the AIRFIT headband (Petzl patent):
  • innovative, streamlined design, with semi-rigid headband and ultra-thin lamp body. The battery pack is in the rear, to distribute the weight of the headlamp over the entire head, making it balanced and comfortable enough to be almost imperceptible
  • water-repellent headband, resists sweat and rain. The thin headband considerably reduces the area of contact and improves air circulation during dynamic activities
  • quick and easy rear adjustment
  • Optimal visual comfort:
  • lightweight and powerful: 500 lumens at 79 g
  • multiple LEDs provide homogeneous light distribution
  • two beam types (flood or mixed) and many white brightness levels, to meet different user requirements: proximity lighting, movement and distance vision
  • three lighting levels, easily and quickly accessible with a single button
  • Rechargeable:
  • CORE battery charges via micro USB port
  • HYBRID CONCEPT design: IKO CORE comes with the CORE rechargeable battery and also works with three standard batteries. The lamp detects the energy source and adjusts
  • lighting performance (IKO CORE with CORE rechargeable battery= 500 lumens, IKO CORE with standard batteries = 350 lumens)
  • Versatile and easy to use:
  • can be mounted in various ways, depending on use: worn on the head or around the neck, placed on a table, attached to a tent pole or tree...
  • storage pouch allows it to be transformed into a lantern
  • reflective components on rear make the user visible at night
  • battery charge indicator when lamp is turned on or off, for checking remaining battery life
  • two LOCK functions to avoid accidentally turning it on
  • can be flattened in its minimal pouch to reduce bulk
  • compatible with all Petzl helmets

Chilling History
Format: Hardcover
The police action in Korea began to heat up very quickly, as Chinese troops began to pour over the border, and take up defensive positions. The Marines that were deployed to the area had their hands full, trying to keep even more troops from crossing, while also defending the surrounding area. The horrific weather conditions, without the proper gear, and the determination of the Marines to refuse to give ground gave way to a very volatile situation. With temperatures continuing to plumate, the biggest enemy on either side was not munitions, it was frostbite and death. Many soldiers froze to death. Chinese soldiers were issued cold weather gear that was far below what was needed for the sub-zero temperatures of the region. Soldiers from the United States were not initially given the correct gear, although there was a push to get what was needed, but many still lost fingers and toes to frostbite. Medical units were also not fully prepared for the onslaught that was coming their way. Many found themselves overwhelmed with wounded, while low on supplies and materials. This was a great read, and a real eye-opener on the deprivations that were suffered by both sides during the beginning of the Korean War. Joseph Wheelan again brings a great amount of detail, both tactical and strategic, as we look at one of the more brutal aspects of the Korean War.

Very good author.
Format: Hardcover
Chosin Reservoir is what everyone who knows someone involved in the Korean Conflict will want to read about. Wheelan is an outstanding writer, able to help you visualize the horror our military experienced. The author reveals some of the human blind spots in decision making by commanders leading to the tragedy.

Why wasn’t MacArthur court martialed?
Format: Hardcover
If there is a better book about overcoming the impossible, please send the title. Leadership at every level except the very top as well as the esprit de corps of USMC carried the day against overwhelming numbers of Chinese armies ( yes, armies - hundreds of thousand against USA and USMC troops). The Korean War doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Emperor MacArthur sat on his butt in Tokyo refusing to believe he could be wrong while Chinese armies crossed the Yalu intent on destroying the 1st MARDIV and the USA units east of the Chosin Reservoir. He spent one night in Korea during the entire war until President Truman fired his ass and rightly so.

Comprehensive analysis of the Chosin Reservoir campaign
Format: Hardcover
Excellent excellent review and analysis of the Chosin Resevoir campaign. The author examines the battle day-by-day from the Marines, Army, and Chinese Army perspective. This should be a required reference when studying the battle to understand lessons learned. So often books on this campaign are fragmented. In this book, he put the exciting descriptions of the action in the context of the broader campaign. I really appreciated how he included Task Force McLean/Faith which often gets omitted. After reading a number of books on this battle, I knew what was going to happen, but have to admit that it was hard to put this book down. HIGHLY highly recommended.
