Coming from deep within the city that brought us Master Ps legendary No Limit Dynasty and Lil Boosie comes an artist who uniquely encapsulates the crossing point between lowslung Hip Hop and forward thinking, emotive electronic music. 22-year-old New Orleans based Suicideyear AKA James Prudhomme brings his own Southern Gothic perspective to the table with new album Color The Weather, set for release on July 6th via LuckyMe.Although not his debut album per se - 2015s Japan on OneOhTrix Point Never's Software label was a collection of previously released beats Color The Weather represents the first time Suicideyear has specifically sought to create a complete body of work, further developing different textures and sounds that were hinted on last years critically acclaimed Hate Songs EP.Within these tracks lie the ghosts of Prudhommes past - a difficult childhood truncated in his teens by his family home burning down. When he left Baton Rouge for his new home in New Orleans he found himself further entrenched in the Southern Rap scene whilst he soaked up the avant-garde electronic music he found online. Balancing his tender instrumentation alongside some of the tightest drum programming in the game - these tracks twist and turn - new elements are built and destroyed constantly encompassing a huge emotional range. On the records two vocal features he expounds on this innovative and ambitious duality Domino Records own Georgia filling the track with longing and hope whilst Prudhomme deconstructs the track around her. The Casey MQ featured Said and Done goes further - the last third of the track slowing to a codeine induced haze paying a nod to the Chopped and Screwed sound of James youth. Color The Weather is about the ability to build or form security after trauma/betrayal & building personal coping mechanisms to get through said traumas. Coming soon to a Banned Book list near you.
Format: Hardcover
A retelling of Animal Farm but for modern audiences. Instead of focusing on the dangers of communism, it instead focuses on the dangers of fascism. I would say it's very heavy-handed in its obvious critique of the MAGA crowd, but also frightfully accurate and does very well at evoking emotion from you, the reader, who probably also just like me, would be very frustrated watching everyone fall for the DJT-allegory bulldog and it's BS. It's less "1984" and more "It Can't Happen Here" in it's warning about indifference and inaction in the face of growing danger from the autocracy crowd. It saddens me that this is a lesson that we have to keep learning, but I would say this book is probably one of the best ways of teaching that lesson at this point.

A well done graphic novel for children
Format: Hardcover
A graphic novel for middle and high schoolers that personifies animals vis-a-vis “Animal Farm”. The illustration is well done and the prose is easily understandable by children. An adult will probably be needed to explain the metaphors.

Modern Day Animal Farm
Format: Paperback
📚Animal Pound ✍🏻Tom King Blurb: When animals grow tired of being caged and abused, it’s only a matter of time before they have nothing to lose but their cages… When an uprising puts a pound in control of the animals, they make quick comrades, united against everything that walks on two legs. But with this newfound power comes a sudden challenge: how best to lay the groundwork for this new democracy as they write their first constitution. The conditions are ripe for a dictator, primed for instating a new system of brutality and death. When two groups of animals work together will their efforts be enough to prevent further animal authoritarianism? Discover a timely graphic storytelling event from celebrated New York Times bestselling, Eisner Award-winning writer Tom King (The Human Target, Love Everlasting) and New York Times bestselling, Eisner Award-nominated artist Peter Gross (American Jesus, The Books of Magic), collaborating for the first time ever to bring this enduring Orwellian allegory to life for the 21st Century. Collects Animal Pound #1-5. My Thoughts: A retelling of Animal Farm but for modern audiences. Instead of focusing on the dangers of communism, it instead focuses on the dangers of fascism. I would say it's very heavy-handed in its obvious critique of the MAGA crowd, but also frightfully accurate and does very well at evoking emotion from you, the reader, who probably also just like me, would be very frustrated watching everyone fall for the the DJT-allegory.. This is the rare graphic novel meant to be given to non comics readers. Thanks NetGalley, BOOM! Studios and Author Tom King for the advanced copy of "Animal Pound" I am leaving my voluntary review in appreciation. #NetGalley #Boom!Studios #AnimalPound #TomKing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
